This year's migration started again early
15th June 2006
The wildebeest migration is here! Last year it was thought to be unusually early as they arrived on June 20th but this year it was just under a week ahead of that; even more surprising as the animals had made the journey south to the Serengeti so late this year due to the drought. In the last couple of weeks the Loita Plains zebra migration also arrived. It is estimated that 500,000 zebras and wildebeest make the journey from the Loitas each year.
The crocodiles express their interest as usual, but don't make too many kills, as the water is low and shallow, giving the animals an easy crossing. They'll now be making their way south-west to the Mara Conservancy, where they'll meet up with the Serengeti wildebeest migration.
