What do I need for Kenya travel?

- keen photographer take between 150 and 200 pix/day. huge or many memory is needed
- if keen on photography: a backpack for that equipment comes very handy for travel as well
as game drives.
- broad band antibiots is wise to take
- different plasters- a large plastic bag to cover the photo equipment for protection against
rain/water
- buy a kikoi (piece of wonderfully coloured fabric roughly 80xm x 200cm, around 10$ depeding where
you buy it) when you have arrived. this makes a great souvenir and offers protection against
dust while on game drives.
- don't change your lense while on game drives. heavy dust may slip into the sensitive
camera. if you must change: hold the camera downwards while changing.
- take a mouth mask or scarf onto the aircraft and try to cover your mouth as much as possible.
first it protects from getting a cold and secondly it provides your face with humidity.
- buy colours for shorts/shirts etc. in "earthy" colours: khaki, beige, dark green in order
to camouflage as much as possible. bright colours attract animals attention and might make
them run away!
- never ever should you take you cellphine on game drive! or switch it off if you need to use
it and ask the guide to take you to a hotspot. don't switch it on before you have reached
that hotspot!
- if you are afraid of any kind of flying or crawling stuff you can buy yourself a travel mosquito
net plus a large safety needle and a hook. that enables you to hang it wherever you
sleep. most of the camps say they provide "mosquito proof tents". but this kind of tent has
to be invented yet.
- bug spray will be provided in decent camps: DOOM for room/peaceful sleep for bogy - or
equivalent of these.
- sunscreen 30+, hat
- depending on time of travel: sweater and windbreaker plus jersey for cold mornings/evenings
especially for games drives. it can be chilly particularly in the morning.
- never walk after darf or before sunrise on your own! that's the time when the big cats
hunt!
- make sure your passport is valid for at least 6 months after departure kenya and check whether
you need to obtain visa in advance or can apply for it on arrival.
- you should get a yellow fever vaccination. makes sure your polio and tetanus vaccination
is still valid or must be refreshed.
- take only US$ bills in small denomonations (10 and 20) and loads of 1$ bills. 50$ bills must
be younger than 2000 and have "large head". in order to avoid any trouble i would avoid
50$ bills altogether especially as the trip will be pre-paid i assume. you need small bills
for tips and pruchases of small stuff.
- an old tooth brush is very handy for cleaning trekking shoes.

if you want more information please provide us with time of travel, where in kenya and which camps you have in mind as well as information on interests.
