Satao Camp

Satao Camp - Tsavo East

Nestled amongst trees and surrounding a central water-hole, the semi-circular layout of the camp provides an excellent viewing point for each of our guests.

One of the comfortable tents at Satao Camp - Tsavo EastSatao Camp has 20 tents, all e-suite, thoughtfully positioned to ensure a full view of the camps "own" watering hole.

The 20 tents are made up of 16 family tents and 4 suites each tent is constructed of sisal and boroti poles topped with a makuti roof, only the front of the tent is visible as each tent has its own patio with table and chairs.

The tents are exquisite; all are attractively furnished with locally made beds and unique African designs. Each spacious tent has a private bathroom with running water.

The shower however is in the true African style, whereby the camp staff bring hot water in the evening. The bathrooms are very spacious, slate floors with stunning wooden framework, the wash basins sunken into the structure, all fitted with flushing toilet.

The suites have authentic antique writing desks and beautiful African bed and cushion covers.

Comfort and the personal touch is what we provide you with in the bush to ensure your stay with us is one that you will never forget.

All tents complete with own verandahs.

Your Host

The Lounge / Dining Area of the Satao Camp, Tsavo EastWhen you arrive at camp you are greeted by “Bobby” the manager, his enthusiasm for wild life enhances you straight away.

After a welcome drink and cold towel “Bobby” will brief you about safety and camp layout, he is a veteran of “bush life in Africa”.

If your idea of a safari experience is searching, watching and learning about the wildlife of Africa, then Bobby will help you enjoy your stay to the maximum. You will notice him scurrying around camp looking and sometimes talking to the animals!!

He is no Dr.Doolittle but comments have been made about him looking like doctor who!!! When he spots something the first thing he does is look fo a guest, his binoculars are handed over to you at lightning speed to ensure you do not miss anything.

He also arranges the “Sundowner” excursions, the “Sundowner” is a wonderful experience, there is only one thing more beautiful than a clear African night sky and that is an African sunset.

You are taken out into the bush where the fire is lit and drinks and biting are served.

Sit back and swap stories of your days adventure whilst watching the blaze red and orange sun sink into the night.

Eco-friendliness

Getting close to wildlife is such a spectacular experience, it's not surprising that safaris, wildlife and nature holidays are so popular. But in many tourist destinations, the delicate ecosystems have been trampled under foot.

At Satao Camp the eco-friendly approach goes beyond responsible nature conservation to include the manner in which the establishment is built and run, whether valuable resources are used sustainable and whether local communities are benefiting from ecotourism to the area.

Special People

View into one of the tents from the private veranda At Satao Camp we pride ourselves on giving our guests “what they want”, tailor made safari's to suit everyone's needs.

The tourism industry as a whole caters mainly for the able bodied person however, we know that many an un-able bodied person dreams of going to “Africa” on safari. The closest they have been is watching “Out of Africa” or the “BBC big cat diaries.” The question we have asked organisations around the globe is “why do we not get many disabled people here in Kenya?”

The simple answer we got was-”because no body cares and it is too much hassle”.

Well we do care and nothing is too much hassle for us. Our Tented safari camp here in Tsavo East Kenya has recently undergone extensive refurbishment and has been designed to cater for those with disabilities. Our vehicles have been modified to cater for wheelchair users to sit comfortably and have the view to experience something they have only ever dreamt of.

Everyone who comes to Kenya comments “the people are so friendly here” and this is one of our greatest assets, everyone here is equal, it does not matter about your circumstances, the days always pass with a warm truthful smile.

We will make ensure you have memories that will be etched in your mind forever.
