Poachers have killed seven elephants at Tsavo West National Park in the last one month, the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) has said.
KWS Assistant Director-in-charge of Tsavo Conservation area, Mr Jonathan Kirui, said the jumbos were killed at Kuranze on the Kenya-Tanzania border.
Kirui said eight suspected poachers from Tanzania had been arrested in the past two days. Rangers recovered an arm, two heavy-calibre sporting weapons and 53 rounds of ammunition, he said.
They also recovered a Land Rover with Tanzanian registration numbers, two searchlights and assorted foodstuff.
Meanwhile, the Spanish Government has donated Sh100 million towards the rehabilitation of Mau Forest.
The money will be used in rehabilitating the controversial water catchment area where some 10,500 settlers were kicked out two years ago.
It will be launched next month and covers three years. The donation is to be channelled through UNEP and will be administered by the Ewaso Nyiro South Development Authority.
