Tigers in Africa

About 4 - 5 years ago I watched a TV program about several young men who obtained some tiger cubs and decided to see if they could raise them and then eventually release them in southern Africa. It was an interesting program showing how as the cubs got older they had to be taught to obtain their own food. The guys would drag a carcass behind their vehicle until the tigers caught on and then eventually the tigers stalked and got their own food.

I've never heard any followup on this adventure and wondered if any of you have heard about it. Were the tigers eventually able to be released on their own? Did they survive?

Kipper, since you are a tiger person, have you heard anything about this? I have often thought about them and wondered how they would fare in the wild against lions, leopards, etc.

I've not heard of this Jan, but there are a number of documented cases of tigers killing & eating leopards. The area's of India with Gir lion have no tigers also it must be remembered that the tiger is a stealth killer like the leopard more suited to forest & tall grass then the open plains favored by the lion.
I'll see what I can find out.

The cubs are from China & the posted interest is to breed wild tigers to release back into Asia.

Yea! Right!!

Why Oh Why do I mistrust anything to do with China as a country?
Yet!
People I've met on my travels, who are from China are the nicest of people!

Kipper:

Thanks so much for finding this website. It appears the tigers I saw on the program are still alive and well.

I too share your concern about the relationship with China. I also hope that it doesn't become a breeding farm for canned hunts.

Whether this program will survive over the years only time will tell.

Thanks again!
