More TAXES to those who bring in money and employment to Kenyans
I have just received information from a Director of a large group in Kenya (who shall not be named) that more charges will hit the general pockets of foreign tourists who wish to visit the Masai Mara game reserve.
In the past years – Masai Mara has benefited from hotel groups and companies renting land “directly” from the Masai to benefit all Masai……
Land rented does not include further charges such as plane landing fees, park entrance fees as well as rent for building lodges and bed nights per person in every lodge.
Basically a percentage or FULL charge where ever possible….
Local Masai in the Mara (Masai Groups) backed by the Government wish to increase the fees for the following; charges to go and visit the Hippo pools, Trans Mara charges with a “Trespassing” toll station to be set up enroute.
This means that a ONE day visit to the Masai Mara could cost the average foreign visitor between US Dollars – 70.00 to 110.00 or US Dollars 140.00 to 220.00 per day for a couple travelling together.
This EXCLUDES any accommodation, food and beverages, transport or purchasing any items.
Is this a move to benefit those interested in the next elections taking a page out from Amboseli land reforms?
Will we see a gradual end to the Masai Mara with such laws being put into action?
