It's so good to "Talk" to people of the same interests. Most people think Kath & I are mad!
They take their safari on the couch with the Discovery channel!

We tend to travel with about 12-15kg each plus our camera gear.
Returned from Au after visiting our grand daughter, booked in at 27kg, hold luggage, between us.
Then we were stopped at the departure lounge entrance & our hand baggage was weighed, allowance 7kg, my bag weighed nearly 9kg. I had to transfer video batteries & one camcorder to Kath's bag, 3.8kg, before we were allowed through!
Singapore Airlines, other than that they are probably the best I've flown with.

all people who love travel off the beaten track seem insane to others which just consider hanging around a sandy beach as the ultimate adventure

okay - for situations like the one discribed by you i would advise the following:

allways wear a safari vest/jackets with many pockets. as soon as they declare your camera gear "too heavy" just take some of the stuff off and put them into your vest pockets doesn't matter how it looks as long as it serves the purpose it's not following the latest chi chi fashion rule but being honest: who cares ?
we always wear such jackets in case of.......

I must agree with you. I travelled with different airlines to New Zealand and from all that I tried, I was most satisfied from the service of Singapore Airline.

SIA ist extremely successful with its service! BUT the legspace......

kipper, today i got shirts which have 12 pockets!!!!!!!!! that means much back up space if we get complains regarding hand luggage

Must watch costs!....keep an eye on ebay.
I was worried at first.......Seen people at Heathrow in "Pseudo Safari Suits"
