EAST AFRICA. New research has documented a concentration of over 1000 species, unique or endemic, in the Eastern Arc Mountains of Tanzania and Kenya. This wild area, the size of Luxembourg, has the highest concentration of endemic animals in Africa. Studies have found that at least 96 animals, 832 plants, hundreds of invertebrates including 43 butterflies live here and nowhere else on earth.
