bushman return to their homeland kalahari reserve

bushman scored great victory which might have immense impact on to lawsuits and petitions which have been handed in by other indigenous people like pygmies in congo etc.
today the high court of botswana announced that the bushman have been unlawfully relocated from their homeland, the kalahari reserve, and therefore must be given the right to get back to the kalahari reserve to live there and move freely as they have done for 10 thousends of years!

Pippa:

Not knowing anything about the Kalahari I wouldn't know what the implications of this would be.

I can only liken it to letting all the Maasai in Kenya move into Amboseli, and that would be a disaster.

Do I interpret the "thumbs up" as your feeling good about this? What is your impression?

right interpretetion jan! yes i applaude this decision as a very good one!
the bushmen have been relocated for the "wildlife's sake" because of course their habit was and is to hunt to feed their families. but the bushmen found out that the relocation was ordered just because some companies wanted to dig for diamonds there and these companies were supported by this unlawful decision years ago. now that the bushmen prooved the real reason for their relocation the high court took action and dismissed the former decision!

regarding the amboseli case and kenya in particular:
the difference between the bushmen and the massai: the bushmen never were herders!!!! this means the bushmen only need space for their semi mobile naturally built homes and they hunt just for feeding themselves because they live entirely nomadic lifes! the massai use to invest every shilling they gather just in getting bigger herds of lifestock which creates problems.
what you think?

i would partly agree with you regarding the massai's say........

but - in the earlier days when tourism wasn't a topic at all and the massai did not get their hands on any cash besides selling a cow or goat once in a while just living their lives as they have been doing for thousends of years over-herding was unknown alltogether!
now that they get cash for each and every photo taken by tourists plus the huge sums out of park fees etc. which they don't value as a means of improving their lives regarding education and health care they invest in even more lifestock which in return creates even more problems regarding space for herding. and the next drought decimates the herds so that this vicious circle goes on on end.

Very few Maasais have too much cash or too many cows. Of course there’re problems, and the worst problem is that foreign conservationists’ views – like the opinion that the Maasai have “too many” cows - are heard so much more often than Maasai views.
Here’s one Maasai view: http://www.maasai-association.org/opinion.html
