I dont live in this wonderful country anymore but i care about it greatly. My concern is what effects the drilling is going to have on the environment. If and when you find oil dont be blinded by $$ and make sure that the local people and government have strict laws in place as far as spilage toxic waste removal etc. American corporation are greedy sob's and dont care about destroying your environment or animal habitat.
By the way fantastic website. Happy to find a way to stay in touch with news back home.
Drilling for Oil in Kenya
Welcome to Bushdrums, Mich.
If it wasn't the Americans then I'm sure the Chinese would move in.
Perhaps the American oil companies are the lesser of the two evils!
The Chinese have been drilling in Isiolo for the past year or so, taking over where an Australian firm began but eventually gave up the effort. No US company is involved in Kenya, that I know of...
The Chinese also have several leases from the Kenyan government for future offshore drilling.
I don't think any country's oil companies have clean hands - Chevron, a US firm, extracted oil in the Amazon and left the land the the people poisoned (see the attached link: http://redgreenandblue.org/2011/02/14/chevron-sues-amazon-natives-it-poisoned-with-toxins/
This week baby dolphins have been turning up dead by the dozens in the Gulf of Mexico as well as many species of fish & birds contaminated or dying - thanks to the British Petroleum (BP) spill. And look at the mess in Niger Delta.
