Simba posted a news article \"Canned Lion Hunting to Stay\" with a video at http://www.bushdrums.com/news/index.php?shownews=3387.
It would appear that some judges in South Africa were paid off to allow
this barbaric hunting to continue. Shame on them.
The hunters and professional guides should also be ashamed. At least 12
shots were fired into the lion in a fenced in area before it died.
I realize \"canned hunting\" is a contentious issue with governments looking at
the money foreign hunters bring in and conservationists wanting to save the
species.
However, with the total African population of lions dropping at an alarmingly
low number from hunting and also from poisoning by natives who have
lost a cow or goat to lions, it is a very sad ruling the SA judges gave. The
rhino killing throughout Africa is also heartbreaking. SA takes the lead in
rhino poaching (perhaps because they also have the most rhino).
I have traveled to Africa 18 times in the last 10 years to view the wonderful
wildlife, and I will not spend one red cent in South Africa because of their
horrible wildlife policies. If, or when, they improve the preservation of their
wildlife, I will reconsider.
