A GREAT LIFE THANKS TO AFRICAN SAFARI CLUB !

Coastweek - - Wild life photographer Dietmer Roessler - who captured this delightful scene - now reports that she loves her new home close to Mount Kilimanjaro.

"She is one of the three orphaned young lions which found a new home in African Safari Club's famous Kilimanjaro Kimana Game Sanctuary.

"Kenya Wildlife Service and African Safari Club successfully translocated the animals from Nairobi to Kimana.

"Ira, Cleo (patra) and Boy are now one of the highlights for the tourists going on safari to the Kilimanjaro Kimana Game Sanctuary."

COMMENT:
I was down in Kimana and drove around the Private Sanctuary. We stopped by the lions and although ASC is doing a great job with the sanctuary and re-locating lions, a pitty that there are no large groups of lions around Kimana - (Amboseli National Park has only 2 prides, information provided to me by a warden in November 2005). This is due to farming and fencing being part of the problem.

Pitty for those who travel from various corners of world to see "WILDLIFE" in Kenya have to see Re located wildlife.....

by reading this article i was a bit puzzled because especially the vehicles which are used at any ASC camp in kenya CANNOT SWICH OFF ITS ENGINE! this means gamedrives are conducted in vehincles which have been pushed in the morning in order to get the engine running and never ever switches off the engine while game driving because the engine would not start again (without pushing it)!
we watched this all over the place when we visited the masai mara in august! ASC vehicles stand for let's say half an hour with a lion pride or with leopard cubs poising the animals, the other game watchers and the planet!!!
as far as i am concerned the lion rescue should not be overestimated as this is purely selfish because the lion becomes an attraction at ASC!
as far as i am concerned these ASC vehicles should be taken away from the tracks eliminating their licenses alltogether and ban them from conducting game drives!
as long as ASC doesn't change or maintain properly their vehicles any promotion of ASC means only shuffeling more money into their privat pockets and avoids any change to the better!
but obvioulsy the kenyan government is blind on both eyes as this situation has not changed for years now!
and the tourists which choose ASC camps obviously are just interested in cheap accommodations and just don't care in which vehicle they are sitting!
besides poisening all of us it won't be possible to take decent photographs as the constantly running engine makes photography impossible. but i guess as long as undereducated tourists book ASC their won't be any change to the better at all!
but i think not promoting ASC at all could at least help a bit!
