Thanks Kat. I hadn't even given that a thought. It is an important thing to think about. My guess is that KWS wouldn't have allowed it anyway.

Tsavo will probably be much different when I get there than it was when we saw it in February. I'm reading that because there is no green grass anywhere, thousands of cattle are now in all the parks. In fact, in todays newspaper they spoke of one herder bringing in his 500 cattle!!!!

Wish I could figure out why one man needs a herd of 500 cattle other than the status of making him "wealthy". He would have been far wealthier had he sold 400 last year! That would have also left more food for the wildlife.

Too bad KWS won't hand each visitor a gun and if you wished to kill cows you could buy the ammunition from KWS. After a few days of visitors shooting cows, perhaps the herders would get the message that the parks aren't free.

It's sad that there is so much potential beef-on-the-hoof for feeding hungry people but instead, the herders when hungry, set up snares to wipe out wildlife while amassing a never-ending number of cattle - simply for bragging rights! It's insane.

Recently, a friend of mine in Connecticut Google-Earthed her home. There was a recent still photo of her getting out of her car in front of her house!

By the way, I think your shared trip videos and still pictures are gorgeous! Look forward to seeing them when you return in August (hopefully with lots of wildlife and few cattle in the shots!)

To run a webcam is very cheap to purchase and run... or at least if they have high speed internet connection if the lodges have it.
It does not cost as much as people think.

I am going to try doing it here with what little wildlife I have - I have already purchased my 1st equipment from Kipper's on line shop. It should arrive soon and once I have ity installed we shall see what happens.
I like the idea still.....

Sooner or later I perhaps will find a camp that may wish to join in this crazy idea - but I do not think a poacher will log onto bushdrums and wait to see if an elephant walks past and then target it.
You have a very valid point on modern tech being used but I do not think that this could be the case with us - at least I do not think so.. hope so...

The other thing one would have to think about is building some kind of box around the camera to protect it from the wildlife.

Not only have I seen monkeys and baboons destroying things, but on a recent trip I heard a metallic noise as some elephants walked past my tent and couldn't imagine what it was. When the askari came to visit I mentioned it and he found that one of the elephants had unscrewed a floodlight bulb from the socket but left it on the ground intact! Perhaps he felt he needed a little privacy for his mating that night

That is a big issue; in our garden in Kenya - mum had her daily arguements with the monkeys changing the directions of the lights in the gardens... it was fun seeing her every day running after them.
