What do you think if we contact safari camps we know - if they are able to set up a web cam and link it directly onto Bushdrums.com so that who ever is on our website can see on-line and live what is happening at Satao camp / water hole - or Saltlike lodge in Tsavo etc etc.

This link will be free for the lodge and also we can name the lodge with their full details on our site so that who ever is on this site can see that the waterhole belongs to so and so camp - and they can book directly to go there via a link to their website? This means the lodge will benefit and we can have Bushdrums safari on line...

Simba...... Kipper...... help; is this little dream possible?

To me it sounds wonderful !

But we had it in the past that camps are not supportive - for an unknown reason.
Maybe that has changed due to the cridit crunch.

I would give it a try.

Spontaneously I think of ENTIM camp (owned by the same individual as Ilkeliani) which is directly located at the edge of the Mara river with a vista towards the migration.
That would be something..............

I had already approached Southern Cross Safaris about doing this sort of thing with a video camera at Satao Camp (similar to the live webcam that National Geographic does), as during the dry season there were far more anijmals there than at Peter's Pond.

The concerns were who would pay for the camera, would they have someone there to install and service it if it wasn't working? They would also have to obtain permission from KWS to do so.

I think it would be a great idea, but it could end up being more expensive doing than we project.

If I had some expensive koi's in my pond and could sell them via bushdrums by installing a webcam - I would jump onto it - for sure!
And now YOU are in charge to sell it to Torben!

I'll give it another try Pippa. However, there does need to be someone familiar with camera equipment and feeds and computers on site to be able to pull it off and handle any problems. Will let you know if I have any success this time.

Maybe this is a bit too paranoid but...I worry about poachers with laptops seeing where the big tuskers are and sending out their local contacts to shoot them.
I've heard from conservationist friends that the most advanced Google Earth software has already been part of the poachers arsenal targeting elephant herds all over East. West and Southern Africa....so I would caution real-time filming of our beloved Satao Camp eles.
