CITES Notification No. 2007/029 Geneva, 17 September 2007
CONCERNING:
Elephants and ivory trade questionnaire
1. The CITES Secretariat has prepared a questionnaire in relation to the Action plan for the control of trade in elephant ivory that was amended and adopted at the 14th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (The Hague, 2007) and which is referred to in Decision 13.26 (Rev. CoP14). A copy of the questionnaire is available at:
http://www.cites.org/eng/notif/2007/E029A.pdf
2. The Action plan for control of trade in elephant ivory requires that the questionnaire be
distributed to Parties and non-Parties that have been identified in the Elephant Trade
Information System (ETIS) report for the 14th meeting of the Conference of the Parties as
being affected by illicit trade in ivory. The 82 countries concerned are listed in Annex 2 of
document CoP14 Doc. 53.2. The Secretariat believes, however, that it would be beneficial
if as many countries as possible completed and submitted the questionnaire. Consequently, it is being distributed via this Notification. Individual copies of the
questionnaire will be sent to all elephant range States.
3. It is requested that completed questionnaires be submitted to the Secretariat by
31 December 2007.
