I have been regularly reading the blogs on wildlifedirect.org and following with interest the rangers of the Mara Triangle. They are not KWS. They are paid by the Mara Conservancy which, due to the clashes, is operating on very few funds the last six months. The rangers have been very active and catching a lot of poachers in their section of the Mara. Poaching will get even worse now that the migration has started.
As you may suspect, very few tour companies, camps and lodges are contributing to wildlife preservation/conservation - just making a bundle of money from it.
Does anyone have any ideas of how we can find out just what tour companies and which camps/lodges do actually contribute, either monetarily or donating fuel, use of vehicle, etc.?
I think it important that tourists know which companies and/or lodges/camps are working the hardest and closest with authorities to protect the future of the wildlife, and in the end their businesses.
I have thought of contacting KATO to see if they have any kind of listing, but I'm betting they don't, or won't release it. I doubt KWS has a list either, though they might want to think about it for the future.
Anyone have any good ideas?
