Very sad about the KWS guys, I was up on the Tana river border in March for a couple of days and noticed the big tuskers up there were literally running away from me and were exceedingly wary. The whole north frontier felt empty and quiet and I didn't come across anyone else for about six hours (bit spooky as I was on my own). I seem to remember the KWS rangers have a contributions pot at some of the entrances, perhaps thats a good way to contribute?

Good thought - I guess that the contribution pot perhaps goes to the rangers at the particular gate and who works there fpr that gates. I doubt very much that such pots get divided up with all rangers across Kenya but at least they get it.
Unfortunately I have quite negative thoughts where contributions get divided as due to past work experiences - Once the pot is more or less full those contributions get divided and those in need get the last few drops in the pot and they really need to shake it to get it!!
