Thank you for posting this Chris. Lawrence was an amazing man and conservationist. I have his books "The Elephant Whisperer" and "Baghdad Zoo" and had pre-ordered his new book "The Last Rhino" before he died.
Though his elephants had been living in another part of his sanctuary for 19 months and hadn't been seen by the family, the day he died
all the elephants returned, and have returned every day since his death. Somehow the elephants have sensed Lawrence's death.
The one positive thing, as far as the wildlife is concerned, is that Lawrence's family has pledged to carry out his legacy and see that the wildlife in the sanctuary is lovingly cared for. Lawrence's death is a huge loss to wildlife conservation. He will be sorely missed.
