Nico, I vividly remember the trip to Voi.

The last time I stayed at Aruba Lodge, the place was totally run down but the staff was still there and offered me to stay although they could not offer much service. They dug out some papayas, biscuits, 4 eggs and 2 fanta which was all they had. The guy then went off to look for a cottage where shower AND toilet worked. I don't know what the staff smoked before our arrival but they were all sitting in a remote corner of the lodge giggling away. I realized it was getting dark and the friendly "receptionist" was still digging through his bunch of keys at every cottage to check if this one was intact because he couldn't remember or maybe it was another cottage but he thinks that that one doesn't have a mossi-net, or maybe it was the one near the dam ... ... ...

In the end I took off to drive around the lake and watch the elephants take a bath and we returned in the dark. The chap proudly presented the cottage he found and showed us that everything works. To flush the toilet you had to put your hand in the pitch black water reservoir and pull on a rusty wire - but - it worked

We then put the eggs in a pan and watched them foam and bubble but not get hard. I changed plans and made scrambled eggs instead of fried eggs but no matter how much I fried and stirred, they continued to bubble and foam even after 20 minutes - At that point we were so hungry, we ate them anyhow. Desert were the biscuits and some papaya and breakfast - yes - again biscuits with papaya.

The next day we went to Voi for grocery and stayed another night

The good old days - young adventures boys; now just young and still boys...!

No Nico, you get something wrong here - at least if you include me. I might not be young anymore but I am still in for any silly adventure and behave like a little boy

I don't know if any one is still reading this thread; but I was interested that Jan said in her original post that "there are also a lot of lions in the area". I just wondered how many roughly is "a lot". Please don't think I am being sarcastic, this is a genuine question as lions are said to be in decline all over Africa.

Does anyone have any information on how many lions there are in the "Aruba area"?
