Note from Sheldrick update today:
A sudden decision made by the Kenya Wildlife Service to impose a $40 entrance Fee at the Service Entrance that provides access to our premises, without discussion or warning, came as an unwelcome shock this month, impacting negatively on our mud-wallow guests and by extension, our working revenues, cutting donations for the orphans dramatically. However, after a month, public pressure forced the authorities to rescind this fee until a more workable solution could be found, following discussion with all parties involved.

That is the way I understood it also. FOR NOW, things have been rescinded. However, who knows what they will try to do in the future.
Let us just hope and pray that KWS will do their homework and realize all the Sheldrick Trust has done for them over the years. One also hopes that because people have spoken up against the attempt to charge for their one hour visit with their adopted orphans, that the Trust won't be retaliated against in any way. Kenya needs more organizations like this one, not just for rhinos and elephants.
Let's all keep our fingers crossed that this is permanent!
