Rare Chinese tigers sent to South Africa for safe keeping

Only 60 Chinese tigers are still known to survive – all of them in zoos

The tiger is an endangered species – and the rarest of them is the Chinese tiger.

Only 60 are still known to survive – all of them in zoos.

But one determined woman has come up with an incredible plan to save them.

In a small corner of South Africa, a small family of Chinese tigers is flourishing, sent there for safe-keeping so the species can survive.

The venture is the brain child of Lee Shuan, a multi-million dollar labour of love that is keeping the animal from extinction.

“We have a saying in Chinese: ‘we’re born naked, we die naked’,” she says. “I would rather spend anything I have to do something I love most than taking the money to the grave.”

Poster's note: Does anyone feel they will be safer in Africa?

Jan - plain answer: NO!

Why haven't we seen the venue where the tigers live in SA?

In my book SA is one of the most rogue nations for wildlife as SA hunting and wildlife ethics in particular are still based on those from Apartheid.
