The Busia District
Busia is a district in Western Kenya. It borders Kakamega District to the east, Bungoma District to the north, Busia District, Uganda to the west, and Lake Victoria to the south.
The main economic activity is trade with neighbouring Uganda, with Busia town - the district headquarters - being a cross-border centre. Away from town, the district economy is heavily reliant on fishing and agriculture, with cassava and maize being the principal cash crops.
The district has a total population of 370,608 (1999 census). It is divided into six divisions: Busia Township, Matayos, Nambale, Butula, Funyula and Budalangi
