Herdsmen Have Invaded the Tsavo National Park

HERDSMEN have INVADED the TSAVO NATIONAL PARK

'theatre of the wild' as Tsavo is aptly named will become a theatre of dreams

Coastweek

As a regular visitor to Tsavo National Parks I was shocked to see the amount of not less than 20000 cows grazing.

The moment I finished paying for my park tickets I was looking forward to seeing some wildlife but I was wrong this time and for the first 20 kms I saw nothing but huge amount of cows and their herdsman roaming freely in the park.

This is not normal at all and I am rather worried that if the trend continues very soon and I mean very soon we shall have no more Tsavo Parks and our heritage.

The "theatre of the wild" as Tsavo is known will truly be a theatre of dreams.

As a tour operator for over 30 years we have been observing and following all the rules laid down by Kenya Wildlife Service.

Tour drivers are not allowed to drive off the tracks and when spotted by KWS rangers heavy penalties are imposed upon the victims as well as being banned from all parks in Kenya yet these herds are allowed to graze freely in the parks in front of the KWS rangers ?

What are the authorities concerned doing about all this infiltration of these Somali herdsmen ?

Where is Mr Balala and his Tourism Ministry, where is KWS and where are Friends Of Tsavo ?

Are you sleeping and allowing this destruction to go on ?

It seems that none of you has voiced your concerns or commented on this issue.

You have either opted to ignore or are a part of this ongoing total destruction of Tsavo National Parks.

• I refer too your headline in your Coastweek issue on how poachers have returned to Tsavo.

It doesn't surprise me a bit as Kenya Wildlife Service has been napping.

One has just got to drive into Bachuma and see the destruction caused by cattle grazing in the park. If KWS cannot get rid off cattle grazers do you expect them to get rid of poachers.

This is just the beginning wait till you see the end of it.

Total destruction of our wildlife.

It is not too long we are just waiting for the time bomb to explode.

I pity the Wildlife and I am not sure if our grand children will have the opportunity to see any.
