Sabuk Cottages & Camp

The Sabuk Cottages

The Sabuk cottages are located on the very edge of the Laikipia plateau overlooking the Ewaso Nyiro River and Laikipia plain. The Laikipia plain stretches all the way from the Aberdares to the Mathews Range. A big variety of tribes and communities like the Laikipiak Masai and the well known Samburu live in this area, providing visitors a great opportunity to understand the differences in their appearance and culture. The Samburu district was closed to travellers and other tribes for many years, leaving behind an extremely pure region of culture and undisturbed wildlife.

Accommodation

The Sabuk Camp consists of 5 rooms at the lodge and 5 tents in the fly camp. The rooms, lounge and dining area all overlook the Ewaso Nyiro River and the vast Laikipia plateau. The cottages are crafted from local stone and ancient cedar and olive wood. Each cottage has an en-suite bathroom and a private veranda.

Activities

The surrounding of the Sabuk Cottages invite to great excursions on foot or camel. Bushdrums.com suggests to go at least on a day trip with a local Masai to learn about the beauties the country offers beyond the obligatory “big five”. The Masai are famous for knowing everything about their land. Their knowledge has been passed on over generations and generations. If you can afford to spend some more time here, bushdrums.com suggests to spend at least one night in the Fly-Camp. Join a horse or camel trip to get a real feeling of the nature rather than rushing through the land in an air-conditioned Jeep which will never let you hear, smell, feel and taste nature as on the back of a camel or on your own feet. You might sweat a little bit every now and then, but there is a river that allows you to take a refreshing dip to make sure it won’t become too much.

The Sabuk Cottages and Fly-Camp are managed by Cheli & Peacock where you can make your reservations.

Bushdrums.com highly recommends Sabuk Cottages for the efforts made on eco-tourism. To read more about the activities of Cheli & Peacock, read Nico´s Review.

The Sabuk Cottages have been suggested by our close friend Herbert Schaible (Herbie to all his friends) who has helped with an incredible amount of useful information which we have placed here for all to read, enjoy and hopefully experience.

If you have stayed at the Sabuk Cottages, we would appreciate your opinion and experiences which you can easily submit with the help of our review form.
