MALAWI
the translocation ot 70 elephants from liwonde NP to majete wildlife reserve has been completed successfully and the animals are settling well into their new environment. elephants are indigenous to majete and, as recently as 1987, the reserve supported a population of between 200 and 300 animals, but poaching decimeted them all!
the elephants were moved in small groups from liwonde 280 kilometers to the south to majete in a complex exercise that lasted nearly 3 weeks and involved experts and equipment from all over southern africa.
