Back street English is what I was taught in Mombasa - mixed with Swahili and Arabic; found it hard to understand why those Guildford (in Surrey - England) people did not understand me when I went there to study...
Hmmmmm!
Many! Many years ago our patrol had an interpreter & he was one of the lads, we insisted where we went he came with us....To some rather posh parties!
The problem was he also learned our "Back Street English" & did not realize it was different to normal English!
Understandably...We never were asked twice!

Yeh - but after studying in Surrey for quite a few years; then working in London at perhaps the most exclusive 2 places in the hotel business - and living in Wimbledon during that time - My English has been tuned to the levels that I am awaiting an official invite to a tea party. The venue - hopefully on the lawns of a small cottage that at times has the Union Jack flying when HRM is present in Green Park... or I would not mind being shown around the other "living pad" - situated close to Legoland!
