I am willing to keep an open mind on this one. I think the native rewilding should at least be given a chance to see what happens. I would rather a deer/moose/beaver by taken by a wolf or puma than blasted by a rifle.

But would a deer/moose/beaver Jan?

Unlike the cats wolves & bears are not clean killers but often tear their prey to pieces.
The predators introduced would become more fodder for the hunting industry.

I do agree with what your saying about reintroducing recent native extinctions. But to manufacture & reintroduce mammoth & the such...............!!!
We have wild boar living around us,not by design but by accident, escapes from farms & abattoirs. Our gun laws are tough so the problem of hunters is minimal. But as more & more townies move out from London into this rural area in the south east of England, there are going to be problems in the spring when defending their young as families from the towns take to footpaths in spring with no knowledge of the countryside.
Around here in Saxon times, wolves & bears were hunted in the wildwoods of the Weald

I'm just a drop in the ocean....But a million drops could make a wave!

Also, as mentioned before, a single bear made his way across the alps last year and decided to settle down in Germany. Not for long. People decided he is just too dangerous and off they went to kill him before he kills any humans.

and carsten, the WWF had appoved the killing of BRUNO the bear! that is even more disgusting and shadows the glory of WWF as far as i am concerned!
