K.S.P.C.A. RECOMMEND: 'VACCINATE' YOUR DOGS AND CATS
"In less than two weeks in this month of July, we
have received eight cases of rabies out-break"
Coastweek - - The KSPCA Mombasa have received and witnessed cases of rabies out break in Mombasa.
The animals infected were all dogs.
A K.S.P.C.A. spokesman said:
"In less than two weeks in this month of July, we have received eight cases of rabies out-break.
"These cases have been reported in Nyali areas and along the Public beach in Bamburi.
"Rabies is a killer disease and the main carriers are dogs and cats.
"Please vaccinate your dogs and cats.
"Please note that it is a legal requirement in Kenya that dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies.
"Rabies only infects mammals - meaning that, pets, livestock, wildlife and people are at risk.
" Know the signs of rabies:
• Unprovoked aggression and biting
• Salivation
• Inability to swallow water
• Fever
• The animal may become shy or hide
• The animal may become excitable, irritable and aggressive
"KSPCA would like the public to report any animal with any of the above signs to their veterinary doctor or to KSPCA immediately.
"If you are bitten or come into contact with any rabid animal, then seek medical advice immediately."
