excellent system kipper ! but what about the locals? the system is meant in view to tourists i guess....

regarding airfares to kenya:
i just bought emirates tickets from duesselsorf to nairobi: almost 1000€/pax. for the same money you can fly to australia! but flying KLM/kenya airways ends up to almost 1300€ and even the charters from germany (LTU and CONDOR) charge almost 1100€ -all return.
going down to SA is much cheaper.
taking everything into consideration: kenya is going to be out of reach for joe average. or you have to to do it in a beach holiday which is nothing i would consider at all. flying from mombasa to the mara and back sums up to almost 300US. and flying on privat charter to elsa's or laikipia ripps you off completely.
it's becoming very difficult to promote kenya as a high-end destination based on the mass tourism fact - not on the pricing

Local schools & people use the Canters. Normally a Canter full of local children wide eyed & in awe!
Now a Canter full of local people......Noise on wheels!! But it's excitement from them! Entrance fees are greatly reduced, & should be, for them.

The tigers with ranges that include the major forest tracks seem unperturbed by the noise of the people but then these are normal tracks in daily use.

I did not mean to imply that raising park fees alone would reduce numbers. It certainly has not worked in the Serengeti or Ngorongoro where prices have sky-rocketed over the past 3 years with little or no effect. Restricting number of admissions seems logical but in practice, it doesn't work in both the mentioned parks either. Money talks in most places but in third world Africa .......money sings!!

I am not really sure of the most practical way to curb number of visitors to any given park. Even more so for special places like the Mara and Serengeti/Ngorongoro ecosystem. There is such a demand to visit these parks that a few extra 100 $$ won't deter most people.
