UK MPs step in to rescue local tourism industry

Members of Parliament from UK are acting to save Tanzania’s tourism industry from the on-going recession. A delegation of British MPs who visited Arusha this week has revealed.

The ailing local tourism industry, highly dependent on wildlife-gazing leisure travellers, has been experiencing a decline of about 15 percent in its expected number of visitors and with it a further drop of 32 percent in projected fiscal year revenue ending in July 2009. The Global Financial crisis is to blame.

Liberal Democrat, Malcolm Bruce who is the MP for Gordon, Scotland and leader of the delegation said they were going back to Britain to persuade their government to continue supporting tourism-industry related projects in Tanzania.
