Allstate’s Weirdest Insurance Claims
Who says insurance is dull and boring? Here are some of the wackiest claims that have been encountered by Allstate’s good hands.
Green Thumb
Sounds reasonable enough: You’re sitting on the couch, watching TV in your living room and it starts raining…inside. Your ceiling is leaking so you submit a claim.
When an Allstate adjuster was sent to one claimant’s house to he discovered a garden had been set up in the bedroom directly above the living room by the man’s father. The daily watering of the plants was a little too much for the ceiling to handle.
The Dog Ate My…Teeth?
One family submitted a claim to replace a set of false teeth. Turns out the dog ate them. The family babysitter had retired her false teeth for the evening and placed them in a glass on the bedside table. It seems the dog may have mistaken the glass for its water bowl and the teeth for a milk bone. Not sure who to feel sorrier for: the babysitter or the dog.
Crashing Christmas Dinner
The perfect Christmas dinner: lakefront home, matching décor, fabulous ambiance and a delicious menu. This was the scene for one family who made their way to the dining room to carve their Christmas turkey. As they entered the room a fully grown goose flew through the window and crashed on top of the turkey – now that’s how you make an entrance. Needless to say, a homeowner’s claim was opened to deal with the broken windows.
Pig-Out
Warning: Do not leave pigs unattended. One man submitted a claim because a pig was locked in his car at his place of work. Looks like the pig was hungry, it ended up eating and destroying the complete interior of the vehicle.
Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!
One family learned a lesson about animal instincts while on a trip to the African Lion Safari. The mother wanted her kids to have a good time, and thought this would be best accomplished by having the animals visit her car. She decided that smearing red meat all over her car would do the trick. Well, the smell did attract the animals – in hoards! Her car became the new attraction of the safari as the animals began attacking the car. Luckily, everyone escaped unharmed; the same could not be said for the car.
This is Going to be Tough to Manure
One morning, a man awoke and found himself more than knee-deep – in manure. At some point during the night someone piled the cow excrement up against his front and side doorways and along all his window sills which prevented him from being able to get out of his house. Talk about a rude awakening.
Great Dent
A claim was issued by a man who took his Great Dane to the vet. It turns out the man’s dog was easily excited by car rides. When he asked the dog if he wanted to go for a car ride the pup naturally got very eager and his wagging tail put a good sized dent in the quarter panel of his car.
An Unfortunate Turn of Events
One claimant couple lived on an estate property with a long curved driveway lined with trees making visibility around corners difficult. This proved problematic one day as the husband was leaving just as his wife was returning home. Neither was aware the other was on the driveway and when coming around one of the curves, they collided head-on.
Why did the Cow Cross the Road?
A claim was issued by a man driving along his merry way when he suddenly had to swerve to avoid striking a cow on busy Highway 401. Unfortunately for him, he hit a transformer located on an egg farmer’s property. The transformer blew out causing an egg production loss of $15,000. The adjuster who investigated found a break in the cattle farmer’s fence down the highway. It was determined the break in the fence was old making the cattle farmer negligent for the loss.
