Here is my slant on petitions.
I honestly do not think they work.

OK, I say sign them just in case but if a pertition has a million signatures it is still only one piece of paper.

"Oh yes, thank you, a million signatures you say! Wow we will look into this!"

& that one peice of paper is soon forgotten.

But by more direct action, if everyone sends a letter that is one million pieces of paper & not so easily forgotten!

IMHO There are many other ways to fight these things far more effective than a petition.

I'm just a drop in the ocean....But a million drops could make a wave!

Signed & done....

After I signed the petition I automatically got on the screen a lovely picture and large link with "Pretty Women in Thailand" - now how do I expalin that to my wife? - Darling... I was just signing a petition.....

With reference to Kipper - I actually agree; what happens once all these signatures are gathered? Does anything actually get done and does this give those involved enogh power to do anything via the internet?
