thanks kipper for the link which is somehow really disturbing as it reminds me of human beings: the bull kicks the female back and forth and the other elephants just don't care looking rather uninterested to what is happening to the poor female.
we often hear that these things happen in trains and trams. skinheads threatening others but nowbody cares. no one interferes and offers help to the victim.
really strange that elephants mirror human failure.
what i cannot understand is that no one of the zoo staff got to interfere...............

It also would seem that having five or six elephants in a small area such as that was would only encourage disagreements between the individuals. I wouldn't blame the other elephants because they would know well to stay out of the way of an enraged bull who is twice their size and strength.
I would also love to know the origin of the bull. Some of the abused Tuli elephants were solid to European zoos, and I wonder if any of them made it to the Jerusalem zoo? If so, it might account for what had happened.
It might be the angle of the camera, but it looked as though when she fell, she might have fractured her back left leg or hip. When she got up she had trouble standing on it.
So very sad.
