We always take US$ with a £sterling back up & find it important to have US$20 as our largest note before we leave the UK.
On arrival we change some of the £sterling into the host countries money, again small notes.

We divide the local money into "Note Value" & distribute it around our pockets!
5's front left....10's front right.....20's rear right......50's rear left & so on. (add as many 0's to this as called for)

If we feel a Gift is needed we can then go to the pocket for the appropriate money that we feel is warranted.
That way we don't raise hopes by showing a 100 note & only giving 10, we don't give a 100 thinking it's a 10 & we don't wave a wad of money around.
The remainder is kept in a body belt, pockets are then replenished as required in private.
