I can't believe I can finally start counting the days insted of the months...weeks....until we leave for Africa. I am in the packing stage - or actually the editing stage of packing. Weighing and reweighing bags and figuring logistics of it all.

Two little clitches have come up in our prep - United Airlines our first flight is limiting carry-ons to one item a person on domestic flights. So I turned in my backpack and camerabag for a duffle. Number two - we transfer through Terminal 5 at Heathrow - now famous for losing luggage. So I guess the duffle with a change of clothing for each of us is not a bad idea.

Back to packing/editing. Just had to share.

but the italians are in charge of sorting out the luggage problem don't forget to bale it propperly so that they can re-direct it and there might be a chance of getting your hands on it at s o m e stage

i can easily comprehend how you are feeling..............it's always some kind of adrenalin mounting up until one steps in to the airport - finally!

Pippa - The adrenalin has totally taken over - its all about Africa all the time around this house. About the direct flight. We're actually going to Botswana, so Johannesburg is part of the plan. Last year we took SA from Washington Dulles to Johannesburg - it was nearly an eighteen hour flight. And we had a horrible connection from California to Washington DC. It always ends up being two days of travel just to get to Joburg. I decided to split the time up in the middle. Earned some more miles for next year and husband will get to see castles from the air.

Maybe you can take some things out and put me in your suitcase instead

Now Carsten - I would do that except - what if you ended up in lost luggage at Heathrow?
Honestly - we are taking clothes in the duffle I plan on carrying, along with my camera gear and personal stuff. I am most concerned about the duffle for Children in the Wilderness - we are prepared to pay extra for that one to check it through - as long as it gets there!! Twelve days and counting.
