I will not be harsh (being in the restaurant business) however there are some very good restaurants mentioned:

This is owned by Roy; he is a great person and I enjoy going there to chat with him but also becuase they know how to cook sea food. Fresh and not over cooked. Sea food plater is a good choice and allows you to have a mixture of varios sea foods from Oysters to lobster.

Wonderful terrace by the cliff. Dining al fresco is a must and allows one to enjoy eating in the hot Mombasa climate.
Roy has managed to keep his food constant over the past 20 years that I know it - with professional and friendly staff.

If Indian can be cooked outside of India or Srilanka - then I would highly suggest 2 restaurants in Mombasa

1 - Indo Africa and

2 - Singhs - which I do not have the address or phone number of.

Both places I was introduced to my my fellow class mates - Indians and Singhs.
The food here is very well priced and perhaps the best type of Indian food I have had to date.

If you dare ask for hot - then hot is what you shall get.......

Location is not ideal in Mombasa town however worth eating here if Indian and spice is your style.

The Tamarind Restaurants -

Perhaps the best chain of restaurants in Africa.
It is hard to beat a company of hoteliers or restauranteurs when that is what they do from A to Z.

The Tamarind employs professionals:...!

Head chef - a gentleman called Joseph Gasheru keeps an eye on all menus and is based at The Tamarind in Nairobi.
I have had the pleasure of working besides Joseph in the kitchens at The Ritz Hotel in London back in the early 90's when he was sent by the owners to see what is happening in Europe on the food side.... if that is not keeping up to date!!

We have enjoyed the odd meal together in London at various established restaurants discussing menus and the last time I had the chance of sampling his food - back in November 2005, I was not disappointed.

A note must be said - do not expect to get the same quality or service from their restaurant like Carnivors in Nairobi (where their menu has had to be changed due to new government laws.....) - here the restaurant and menu is established to cater for quite a large number of clients whilst the Tamarind in Nairobi, Mombasa or the Dhow is more fine dining orientated.
