Ives:

A friend's wife also lives in Mtwapa while he is in the parks. He has told her to stay locked inside the house for a few days and hopefully this will quiet down.

Other people I've been in contact with state that it will have to come to a standstill soon because there is no food or fuel left for anyone as the trucks haven't been able to get through to the retailers.

Europe, Australia, Britain and the U.S. have all warned their people that unless travel to Kenya is absolutely necessary, people should not go to Kenya now. I am due to go the begining of February, so I will follow what is going on very closely before making a decision as to whether to postpone.

The lack of trust of people within Kenya, and tourism going into another slump will again knock the country back instead of moving it forward. It will hurt everyone.

Kind of ironical isn't it when Lucy Kibaki can violently slap others (as she has multiple times at public venues before), that now Kibaki is calling for a stop to the violence. I question his sincerity.

the news today say that the election supervisor has admitted that the kibaki government had pushed him to announce kibaki winner!
i doubt that will calm down the betrayed people.......

jan,

of course there are some people above others and also above the law. but that can be witnessed in germany and all over europe/the world..........

what i cannot comprehend is that people like policemen and troops fight their own people despite knowing it is false.......or are they all brainwashed??????????

today i got the information from the governors camp that in the mara and its surrounding communities everything is "normal"
jan, i guess you have a good chance that they sort it out within the next weeks and your travel will be - hopefully - not effected. i still cross my fingers!

Hey Kenya,
you know that reputation you had of being one of the only stabile, peaceful and prosperous country in eastern africa? A place for tourists to experience Africa safely?
Well, good luck getting that back now.
You idiots, you fools, you mujunga\'s so called politicians.
I am so very much disappointed about the destruction of your beautiful country.
\'What next for Kenya?\'
Put a big fence round it and call it a zoo. Tours by air only!

I received the following email from Kathryn Fenley, at the David Sheldrick Wildlife US Friends, in regard to my inquiry about the safety of Daphne Sheldrick and the elephants. I apologize if this is not the right place for this post, but it answered my question re election riots and safety. Twyla

you are welcome.

They are all okay over at the Trust. Most of the riots are happening in the slums area of Nairobi and does not affect them at the Trust. I heard from them yesterday and they are all fine and the Trust is still in operation.

Thanks for your concerns. I hope the turmoil ends soon for all of them. Such a shame to live in such a corrupted country and I do pray for them.

Best wishes and thank you again for your support!
