A little yarn about what happened in the Kibaale Forest on a trip to watch chimps.
After our briefing at the Ranger center we went back to the main "Road" in our 4x4 with 2 guests aboard along with another group in their rather smart large Japanese 4x4.
We drove for about fifteen minutes before entering the forest via a minor track, now about 4 hours jungle trek from the center.
Parking the vehicles the lady driver got out very indignant & continued complaining to the guide about the drive & the mud on their vehicle. "What would we have done if we had not had our 4x4?" she indignantly asked
"You'd have walked Madam" Was the reply as the guide disappeared into the under growth with a wry smile!
Guides in the forests of India use sign language to communicate with each other. a language I was keen to learn.
One day Vepul, our guide, held up his hand to Kath, opening & closing his fingers & thumb, as if working the mouth of a sock puppet. "Mem!..What does this mean?" Vepul asked.
Without hesitation "He" pointing to me " Talks to much!" Much merriment!
It's the sign that an alarm call has been heard.
